Backstory: Long Island Housing Partnership (LIHP) advises on program and funding requirements; coordination of marketing; pre-screening efforts for both homeownership and rental programs; pre-purchase and rental counseling; and foreclosure prevention counseling. LIHP also provides technical assistance to private developers, municipalities and other not-for-profits looking to create or maintain affordable housing. The partnership also administers many local programs offered by municipalities and, while some of these programs have short-term affordability restrictions, over 500 units, most of them created in the last five years, have at a minimum a 30-year affordability restriction and some programs restrict affordability in-perpetuity.
Plans: In the first year of the CHIP, LIHP’s work plan focused on developing their Comprehensive Program Manual to consolidate and build LIHP’s capacity to assist the local governments and developers implementing the Long Island Workforce Housing Act of 2008.
